Sheltered gardens and courtyards
In Lapa, a project may begin with a courtyard, a garden between buildings or an outdoor space connected to a house. We assess the relationship between windows, boundaries and seating before arranging the layout. Planting and the position of garden rooms can support privacy while preserving daylight and usable space.
Planting at the right scale
Building shade and existing trees can create different exposures within a sheltered garden. Plant choices should reflect mature size, root space and maintenance access. Planters require their own checks on weight, drainage and irrigation; a visual design cannot establish whether a supporting structure is suitable.
Planning a careful intervention
Entrance routes, protection of existing finishes and material handling help determine the construction sequence. Walls, trees and details to retain should be recorded in the survey. Photographs of access routes and views from the house are useful starting points for discussing your project.
